Synopsis:
When a messy millennial underachiever accidentally gets alien-pregnant she must overcome sceptical doctors, a useless baby-daddy, and her oversharing mum in order to survive and reclaim her life.

From up and coming zany Kiwi filmmaking duo THUNDERLIPS, comes this insanely entertaining comedy-horror that deals with an unwanted pregnancy in the most unpredictable and hilarious fashion. I had a blast with it.
Hannah Lynch plays Mary, a loner who is fed up living with her Mum and is planning on moving out. She spends way too much time lying in bed watching cartoons on her phone. One day while doing laundry, her neighbour Boo pops in and the two spark up a conversation. But this isn't just any conversation. Boo has interrupted Mary trying to get off on the pulsating washer/dryer and some how the talk comes round to Boo's deformation that his Mother had let slip in a previous scene. Boo has a deformed penis and Mary wants to see it.
But wait, it gets weirder.
It's not just deformed, it's alien. With tentacles and everything. The two begin to masturbate and Boo climaxes by mistake in Mary's general direction and before she knows it, Mary is showing all the signs of being pregnant. Despite her best efforts to halt the pregnancy and even abort the child, Mary must deal with the fact that she has conceived an alien baby, creature thingy, and will likely have to follow through with the birth.
Make no mistake about it, this film is disgusting. It's thoroughly absurd, but in the best way possible. The humour here is very much in the same vein as Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement. Very mundane reactions and some hilarious dialogue. Clearly Sean Wallace and Jordan Mark Windsor have been heavily influenced by 'Flight of the Conchords' 'Wellington Paranormal' and 'What We Do in the Shadows'. If you're not a fan of those then this likely won't be for you.
I absolutely loved Hannah Lynch in this role. I think she will be very relatable to a lot of viewers. Her comedy timing is so sharp too and she has great chemistry with Arlo Green, who plays Boo aka "alien dick" and even better chemistry with Yvette Parsons, who plays her Mother. Their interactions feel very authentic despite the bizarreness of it all.
It's a very gooey film too. There's no shying away from showing sticky bits and pieces of the intimate kind. There may also be a few scenes that might trigger some viewers who have had some trauma revolving around losing a baby or someone who has contemplated abortion. It shouldn't be a funny matter but the way it's dealt with here takes a lot of balls. There's a scene involving a vaccum cleaner...I'm not saying any more.
'Mum, I'm Alien Pregnant' is genuinely hilarious but it's actually full of heartfelt moments too with an ensemble of outlandish and comical characters. If you can look passed the absurdity of the plot, there's something really special going on here. The sharp and witty script is based on their previous short film and it doesn't feel stretched out at all. In fact the 95 minutes absolutely flew by. Looking forward to watching it again.
